Dust Surveys

It is recognised that exposure to any dust in excessive amounts can create respiratory problems.

Dust of any kind can be designated a substance hazardous to health under the COSHH Regulations when it is present in concentrations equal to or greater than assigned Workplace Exposure Limits.

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations requires a competent person to assess workplace dust exposure levels.

The aim of the Dust Survey is to assess employees exposure to inhalable and respirable dust.

Results can then be compared to the Workplace Exposure Limits as outlined in HSE Guidance Note EH40, make recommendations of appropriate control measures and identify where improvements can be made.
