The Health and Safety People Win Prestigious Award
23 June 2006
The Health and Safety People Ltd, the leading independent health and safety consultancy, have won the award for ‘Best Safety Innovation from a Construction Consultant’ at this year’s Construction Health and Safety Awards.
The Award ceremony, organised by the HSE and Building Magazine, was hosted by Scottish comedian and radio presenter Fred MacAulay, and took place at The Hilton Hotel, London, on 22nd June 2006.
The Health and Safety People’s entry highlighted the issue of stress within the construction industry with regards to both the effects of stress on the workforce and also the financial strain placed on the industry in lost working days. The judges, consisting of major industry representatives and the HSE, decided that the telephone support line put in place for all The Health and Safety People’s retained clients to combat the adverse effects of stress, is a valuable safety innovation worthy of this high recognition.
“We are delighted to win this award” said Managing Director John Thoday. “We understand that stress can have a detrimental effect on both employers and employees, and took steps to address this issue. We feel that ‘Health’ is as important as ‘Safety’ and we are extremely proud that this service has been recognised and rewarded at such a high level.”
In addition, The Health and Safety People Ltd once again sponsored the ‘Best Major Contractor’s Safety Initiative’ category won again this year by Skanska and presented by John Thoday. At their suggestion, the award this year was divided into two categories to enable smaller contractors a chance at recognition. They also sponsored the second category ‘Best Building Contractor’s Safety Initiative’ which was won by May Gurney and presented by Director Adrienne Massey.
