Health and safety in the workplace is being highlighted by a campaign being backed by Colchester Zoo.
The Zoo has publicly pledged its support for the Shattered Lives campaign run by the Heath and Safety Executive.
Some 1,066 workers were said to have had accidents in 2008-09 due to health and safety breaches leading to slips, trips and falls.
Zoological director at the Colchester Zoo Anthony Tropeano explained that the workers there know all the correct health and safety procedures to be taken every day.
"We have to think of the potential risks all the time everyone has a right to go home safely," he explained.
Each local authority is responsible for looking at how this is implemented in the region's zoos.
Health and safety enforcement officer at Colchester Borough Council Martin Nelson confirmed that Mr Tropeano's premises have a "strong health and safety culture" and is always improving.
The zoo has more than 250 species houses in 60 acres of land and has previously won the Sustainable Tourism Award.
